Text: John 17:9-19 | Series: John 12-21

We saw last week that in John 17, Jesus prays to the Father for Himself, his disciples, and for all believers.

In today’s passage John 9-19, we see Him praying for his disciples; those whom the Father has given Him.

What was the prayer about?

Jesus specifically prays for spiritual protection (to “keep them” v 11, 12). He did not pray for physical or social protection but that the Father would keep them faithful and therefore preserve their faith.

The Lord also prays for them to give holy service (v 17 – 19). Likewise, He sanctifies us, makes us holy, and sets us a part from sin for His service.

He does this through His sacrifice on the cross for our sake so that we may continue his work.
