Text: John 19:16-27 | Series: John 12-21
As Paul says in 1 Corinthians, we preach Christ crucified.
Our passage in John 19:16-27 today marks the time of Jesus’ crucifixion. While there is great significance in the physical suffering that Jesus bore on the cross, that is not what John puts on display in his gospel.
John outlines four clear glorious truths for us:
1. The cross placed all of our sins on Jesus.
2. The cross proclaims Jesus to the world.
3. The cross also placed all of our shame on Jesus.
4. Finally, the cross proclaims Jesus’ love for us.
This is Love beyond comprehension.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
