Text: 2 Chronicles 16 | Series: 1 & 2 Chronicles
“For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those who heart is blameless toward him.” 2 Chronicles 16:9
What is God Looking For?
What is God looking for with His eyes running to and fro the whole earth? He is searching to see if there is any who is humble and devoted to Him.
Last week, we saw that King Asa was a king who sought after God even in the thick of battle. As a result, God granted King Asa victory (2 Chronicles 14-15). In today’s passage, we continue to see Judah enjoying military victory under King Asa.
King Asa Has Misplaced his Trust
However, this time, King Asa did not rely on God. Instead, he looked for help from Syria in the battle against the Northern Kingdom. This victory was not an indication of God’s favor.
Therefore, God sent a prophet to confront King Asa and to rebuke him. Because King Asa had misplaced his reliance.
God Looked for Continued Faithfulness
God was looking for those who would be faithful and devoted to Him. But King Asa had already forgotten the grace of God.
2 Chronicles 16:9 tells us that the omniscient God acts with sovereignty in response to what He sees. To the humble and faithful He grants strong support. But would He find such a person?
Only in Christ. He is the only one whose heart is completely devoted to God. And the good news is that through the work of Christ and by the grace of God, we too can be blameless before God.
God Grants Strong Support
God is looking to show Himself strong in the lives of those who humbly trust in Him. May God find us devoted to and depending on Him!
