Resurrection Hope in a World of Suffering (John 11:1-44)

(For accuracy of this transcript, please refer to the audio and video file)

Okay. Good morning, Church. It’s good to worship with you all this morning wish I could actually see you all, but I’m preaching to my empty living room. But I know the world works together in spirit. Just want to say, Happy Easter Sunday. Another way to say that is a Happy Resurrection Sunday because that’s what Easter’s all about. These there’s not about chocolate bunnies and searching for eggs and stuff like That’s the commercial side of Eastern, but historically, Easter’s about resurrection, Resurrection of Christ. And so today we’re going to be looking into a passage about the resurrection, about a resurrection. We’re actually looking at John 11 which, if you know John 11, is about the resurrection of a man named Lazarus. You might think it’s kind of weird. Why are we looking into someone else’s resurrection rather than Jesus’ resurrection. I think that’s a fair point, but I think you’ll find from this passage is that the resurrection of Lazarus is actually teaching very much about the resurrection of Jesus. Jesus intentionally uses this miracle of raising his friend Lazarus up from the grave to teach about the power of his own resurrection, that He is the resurrection and the life. And so that’s what we’re going to be looking into today.
